Statement from PCC Lord Willy Bach regarding incident at Manchester Arena, 22 May 2017

“Once again we are trying to come to terms with an appalling attack on innocent people.  Terrorists don’t care who they kill.  There cannot be anything more wicked than slaughtering blameless children.  As a parent, I can relate to the pain and horror of those affected by this attack.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who tragically lost their lives, those who were injured and all those affected by this barbaric act.

“The bravery and dedication of the emergency service workers who responded last night was truly inspiring.  Routinely they are asked to respond to the most horrific incidents the details of which the rest of us cannot even imagine.  I applaud their courage.”

He added: “I have spoken to the Chief Constable and agree with him that it is important that we are all extremely vigilant.

“If you see anything suspicious, be it a vehicle, package or person, please contact the police.  It really is better to be safe than silent.

“You can also call the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline - 0800 789 321. It is staffed around the clock by specialist counter-terrorism police officers and staff.”
