VRN Community Fund 2019-2020

VRN-logo-COLOUR-RGB

The Violence Reduction Network (VRN) believes violence is preventable and everyone has a role to play in our mission to reduce violence and its harmful consequences.

Communities, and in particular young people, play a central role in our collective understanding of violence, its causes and how we prevent and reduce its occurance.

In the early stages of its work, the VRN is making available a Community Fund of £50,000 to support grassroots community groups across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Applications for funding will open on 20th November 2019 and will close on 17th December 2019 and the intention is that the funding will be allocated by the end of December 2019.

In line with the VRN’s overall preventative approach, applications should focus on one or more types of prevention:

  1. Primary Prevention: work with young people and/or communities to prevent violence from occurring in the first place.
  2. Secondary Prevention: intervening early where there are concerns around violence to prevent its progression or escalation.
  3. Tertiary Prevention: work aimed at enabling those already directly affected by violence, either as a victim and/or perpetrator, to recover and build a life free from violence.

The fund is open to applications from community based groups and can be used for projects/initiatives that include an element of peer or community mentoring.

Grants can be used to fund a new initiative or to develop existing initiatives/ projects.

The initiative/project must commence and be delivered between the 1st January 2020 and 31st March 2020. All funds awarded must be spent by 31st March 2020.
