PCC welcomes decision to prosecute Operation Enamel suspect

Sir Clive Loader, Leicestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, has today (Saturday June 27) welcomed news that a prosecution will now be brought against a man suspected of sexually abusing children in Leicester in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

In April the Director of Public Prosecutions had announced that whilst there was sufficient evidence to justify a prosecution, she did not believe that to do so would be in the public interest. That decision has today been overturned following a review by an independent lawyer under the Victim’s Right to Review process.

Sir Clive said: “I am of course extremely pleased that the original decision has been overturned. Now, whatever the outcome of legal proceedings, justice will have the chance to be seen to be done. On behalf of the alleged victims to whom I have a statutory responsibility, today represents good news.”
