Support Service for Victims and Witnesses

A new support service for victims and witnesses of crime and antisocial behaviour in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is launched next week (Monday 28 September).

Victim First will provide both practical and emotional support to help people cope and recover from their ordeal.

Earlier this year Police and Crime Commissioner Sir Clive Loader awarded the contract for delivering victims and witnesses services to Catch 22, a social business providing services that help people in tough situations.

And on Monday the new service will be unveiled at a launch event at Leicester City's King Power Stadium.

Catch 22 has pledged that Victim First will provide victims and witnesses of crime with greater support, ensuring vulnerable people receive the help they need.

The service will proactively offer restorative justice - this will be victim led, where offenders meet their victims - as part of a package of measures aimed at helping people recover from their experience.

Monday's event, being opened by Sir Clive, is being attended by Leicestershire Chief Constable Simon Cole, Claire Wiggins, chief executive of the Office of the Victims' Commission and a number of other agencies and partners from across Leicestershire and Rutland. In total, nearly 250 stakeholders are expected.

Media organisations are invited to attend for all or part of the day - which starts at 9.30am.
