 Description:

An exciting opportunity to join the new Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel in the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner has become available. The Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, Rupert Matthews, is recruiting volunteers for a new Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel, in which you will have the opportunity to shape service delivery and improve the service to victims of hate crime in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Giving your time to a cause you believe in and positively influencing policing can be extremely rewarding. As a voluntary panel member, you will help drive performance standards and ensure that the handling of hate crime cases is effective, robust and compliant. You will recognise areas for improvement and effect change by feeding back recommendations to the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be attending Force Headquarters in person to scrutinise up to 3 closed cases of hate crimes and come to a group decision as to whether the case was handled appropriately or not, in reference to the provided guidance. 
  • You will identify themes and trends and share views confidently with respect for others. 

The must haves

  • To be 18 years of age or over and live or work in the Leicestershire Police force area, with intention to live in force area for next 2 years (students).
  • Be independent of both Leicestershire Police and Police and Crime Commissioner and their office.
  • Knowledge and awareness of hate crimes and the impact of hate crime on victims and communities.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to attend meetings in person outside of core hours.
