PCC gets a taste of local life in Diseworth thanks to morning brew

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s newly-appointed Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews enjoyed a cream tea with local beat officers and residents during a community event at Diseworth.

The Commissioner invited villagers to join him on National Cream Tea Day at Diseworth Village Hall to allow him to introduce himself and find out their views on crime and policing.  The event was part of a series of ‘Commissioner’s Cuppas’ events planned across the county.

During the event, Mr Matthews met with Cllr Andrew Woodman, head of the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and secretary of Diseworth Village Hall, as well as residents and local neighbourhood officers.

Mr Matthews said: “I had a lovely morning meeting local people and key safety leads for the area including the local beat bobbies.

“The neighbourhood policing team works very hard to keep the village safe and it was a good opportunity for residents to find out more about their proactive work as well as enjoy a really good scone!

“Getting to know residents and understanding their concerns is essential. As PCC, I have ambitious goals to improve safety in our towns and villages but first I need to find out what improvements local people want to see.  I’m looking forward to more of these events over the summer.”
