Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews “Commissioner’s Advisory Group” has met for the first time. The Group has been introduced to provide a forum where the concerns of local residents and communities can be discussed directly with the Commissioner.
The independent group, which has been recruited from communities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, is ideally placed to bring a variety of issues affecting community safety to the Commissioner’s attention.
The advisory group currently consists of five members, with a further three seats remaining vacant. All the members, who are from wide-ranging backgrounds, have interests or experience in local issues and either work or live within the Leicestershire Police force area. The group is just one of a number of ways in which Mr Matthews is engaging with the diverse communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to ensure that their concerns are being addressed.
Rupert Matthews said: “One of the most important aspects of being Police and Crime Commissioner is listening to local people and understanding the specific concerns impacting on their lives.
“One size does not fit all and I want to fully understand the sensitivities and differences of our diverse city and two counties. It will greatly assist me to make policy on behalf of the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland if I get to know them, visit them and hear what they have to say.”
