A new online map is being developed that will help people see all the services, activities and opportunities available across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews has been working with Mapping for Change for several months to create the map. Once finished, it will be free for everyone to use via the PCC’s website.
The map brings together information about local services in one place. This includes support services, social activities, youth projects, places of worship, clubs, community centres and many other groups that people can get involved with in their area.
More than 900 services, groups and activities are already listed, and the map is still growing.
In the future, local people and organisations will be able to suggest changes or add their own details, which will be checked by PCC staff. Businesses, charities, social clubs and community centres will be encouraged to keep their information up to date to help promote what they offer.
Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews said: “This new map will connect those living or working in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in a way we haven’t seen before. It gives both service providers and residents clear access to what is available locally.
“We want this tool to encourage organisations to work together and help people find support they may not have known about. Simply put, people matter.
“By making services easier to find, we can improve mental and physical wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and help people build stronger support networks.”
The website is easy to use and lets people filter results so they can quickly find activities and support near them that match their needs.
