Round 2 - Road Safety

We are excited to announce the launch of the Road Safety Funding Round as part of the Community Action Fund (CAF). This round will open on Monday 17th November 2025 and will remain open until 16:59 on Monday 12th January 2026.

This funding opportunity is aimed at local community groups, parish councils, charities and voluntary organisations who are passionate about making their roads safer and reducing road-related harm in their communities.

Leicestershire Police is committed to making our roads safer for everyone. As a part of this commitment, we have a dedicated Road Safety Team working tirelessly to reduce road-related harm through enforcement, education, and community engagement. The Community Action Fund aims to support the Road Safety Team by empowering local communities to take action.

Road Safety is a shared responsibility that affect us all. Whether we’re behind the wheel, on a bike, walking or riding as passengers. Every life matters and safer roads mean stronger and safer communities. In 2023 the main contributing factors to road traffic accidents involving car users were:

• Reckless or careless driving
• Failure to look properly
• Misjudging the speed or the intentions of other road users
• Exceeding the speed limit

We believe the local communities are in the best position to lead the change. The Community Action Fund is designed to support grassroot, community-led initiatives that aim to reduce these risks and create safer environments and roads for everyone.

We’re inviting applications for projects that focus on prevention and education, and that align with our wider goal of reducing harm and improving safety. This could include:

• Educational materials for schools – To raise awareness in road crime and the importance of driver safety.
• Speed reduction initiatives – Such as community speed watch schemes.
• Improved signage – To aid safer pedestrian crossing, pathways, and roads.
• Road signs – Such as speed limit signs and Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS).
• Local projects – That aim to support and promote safer cycling and walking routes.
• Driver safety campaigns – To help promote safer driving habits.
• Community workshops – Sessions on vehicle maintenance, safer driving practices and accident response.

We encourage both new and experienced applicants to apply, whether you’re a small community group with a big idea or a parish council with a plan to improve local safety, this fund is hereto help make a difference.

Eligible groups can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to support their road safety initiatives. The Road Safety Community Action Fund will open on Monday 17th November and will stay open until 16:59 on Monday 12th January 2026* we will not accept any applications after this date.

*Please note: While we aim to keep the round open for the full duration, we reserve the right to close the round earlier than the published end date if necessary.

Who Can Apply:

We want to hear from people who understand their communities and have great ideas for making a positive impact. Charities, schools, community groups, parish councils, constituted groups and voluntary organisations can apply, please see below our eligibility criteria:

• Multiple Applications:  You may submit more than one application. Each will be assessed independently, and if more than one meets the quality threshold, we may consider funding multiple proposals. However, funding more than one application is not guaranteed and will depend on the overall strength of submissions and available resources.
• Organisation Size:  Your organisation must have fewer than 30 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff. Volunteers and schools are not counted in this total.
• Funding Limit:  Applications requesting more than £10,000 will not be considered.
• Project Relevance:  Your project must clearly support at least one of the Police and Crime Plan priorities. Applications that do not align with these priorities will not be eligible.
• Current Funding:  If your project is already receiving funding, you cannot apply for additional funding if the new funding period overlaps with your current one.
