Theft is when property is stolen from a person but without the use of force or threat of force.

Be Aware and Confident

• Project confidence by appearing purposeful and aware of your surroundings.
• Stay alert, especially in crowded areas, on public transport, or at night.
• Be cautious around cash machines, watch for distractions. Never count your money in the street.

Secure Your Valuables

• Keep valuables like phones and wallets out of sight, ideally in zipped or buttoned internal pockets, not in your back trouser pocket.
• Carry bags zipped and positioned in front of you or diagonally across your chest.
• Don’t leave phones or bags unattended on tables at outdoor cafes or pubs.
• Avoid hanging bags on the backs of chairs in public places like cafes, restaurants, or pubs.

Take Extra Precautions

• When walking at night, avoid using your phone or wearing headphones. Stick to well-lit, busy streets.
• Enable your phone’s internal tracking or install a tracking app.
• Vary your routine where possible to make it harder for thieves to anticipate your movements.
• Don’t leave items unattended, including pushchairs, outside front doors.

 Mobile Phone Safety

• Keep your mobile phone in a secure place, such as an inside pocket.
• Walk in well-lit areas and avoid walking alone when possible.
• Keep all valuables out of sight and securely stored.
• Be wary of distractions, thieves often work in pairs to divert your attention.
