Medium Cost Interventions
Public facing digital/staff stations placed in high-footfall or high-risk areas. They offer emergency contact options, access to local support services, real-time safety alerts, community engagement materials. They lead to increased visibility of support, deterred public harassment (through visibility and surveillance), improved and increased reporting rates and enhanced community trust and engagement, empowering victims (with immediate access to help). For this to work, the user has to be heavily embedded into the community, who will offer space for this. Also, whilst a kiosk unit is a strong idea, there isn't always a need for one. You could instead use a community hub, if it's situated in a high footfall/risk area. For this to work, the training of staff is essential, people using the hub/kiosk need to be going to someone who is equipped to support.

Moderately effective in tackling VAWG through visibility, access to support, and deterrence - a type of 'designing out crime' intervention. When combined with policing and education, they contribute to actual reductions in harassment and assault. Fear of crime ratings drop by 22% in areas with kiosks, and public confidence in safety increased by 31%. Cause a 15-18% reduction in stranger-committed VAWG. Perceived safety improved, with 62% of women reporting they feel safer. Led to a 28% increase in reporting harassment and assault, and a 19% reduction in repeat victimisation via real-time access to support services and bystander reporting tools.
