The Police and Crime Commissioner is responsible for setting the annual budget including the level of council tax for police purposes (also known as the ‘precept’). In doing so, the Police and Crime Commissioner should consult the Chief Constable and take into account the views of the local community and the Police and Crime Panel, both in regard of priorities and the precept.
